Annual Colorist Mixer Goes Online as a 24-hour Virtual Event on December 12, 2020

LONDON— The Colorist Mixer, previously held in conjunction with NAB Show in the spring and IBC in the fall, will occur this year on December 12, 2020 as an exclusively online event. Organized by the Colorist Society International (CSI) and the International Colorist Academy (iColorist), the event will include keynote speakers, technical demonstrations, networking opportunities, giveaways and other events carrying on around the clock and around the globe.

“We feel that it is important that people still be able to come together this year, share their experiences with peers in the same boat, and end the year feeling supported,” says CSI President Kevin Shaw. “So, to end 2020 on a positive note, the Colorist Mixer is going ahead…with a unique twist. It will be our first 24-hour online mixer. Most of us end up in this industry because we love our craft, but with a workforce flung across the globe often in quite solitary roles, it’s important to find ways to stay connected and enthused.”

Since its inception in 2013, the Colorist Mixer has become an increasingly popular event, offering professionals connected to color grading an opportunity to meet, network and discuss the latest industry developments. It’s a rare chance for colorists to renew friendships with colleagues, make new connections and communicate with manufacturers and industry leaders.

This year’s 24-hour online conference will be held on Zoom and begin at noon UTC-8. Each hour will include a speaker, panel discussion or technical presentation, followed by social events, games & competitions, with breakout rooms for attendees to mingle. Highlights will include panels on women in film, independent filmmaking, and HDR technology. Dolby, SGO and Asus will be among those presenting as well as working colorists and instructors from iColorist. Prizes and giveaways will be provided by event sponsors ASUS, FXPHD, AbelCine, Filmworkz, SGO, Dolby, Mixing Light, FSI Solutions, Portrait Displays, Red Giant and others.

“Experts from across the world of post-production will reveal what they’ve learned this year, and share insights into the industry’s future in terms of career opportunities and technical developments,” notes Shaw. “The fun sections will fulfill the role of the socializing that would have taken place had NAB and IBC happened this year, and will also give freelancers and others a chance to discuss how they’ve managed under COVID and consider how they can help each other going into the new year.”

Although the pandemic has made in-person gatherings impossible, this year’s virtual event has special advantages. “By eliminating the need to travel, this year’s Mixer is available to everyone with no space limitations,” Shaw says. “With events happening around the clock, it’s also accessible to professionals globally at a sensible time of day for people to connect.”
